Staff Didn't Receive Their Shift Notification
This article helps catering business owners and managers diagnose why a staff member didn't receive an email or SMS notification after being assigned to a shift. Work through the checks below in order to quickly find the cause.
1. Confirm the Staff Member Is Assigned to the Shift
A notification is only sent when a staff member is actively assigned to an event or booking. Open the relevant booking and review the Staff or Assigned Staff section to confirm the person appears on the list. If they're missing, add them and trigger the notification manually.
2. Check the Staff Member's Contact Details
If the assignment exists but no message arrived, the most common cause is a missing or incorrect contact.
- Open the staff member's profile and verify their Email Address and Mobile Number fields are filled in and correct.
- A typo in either field will silently prevent delivery.
- Correct any errors, save the profile, and resend the notification.
3. Verify Messaging Is Enabled
CaterCloud allows you to control whether notifications are active at both the account level and the individual staff level.
- Check your Account Settings → Notifications (or similar) to confirm that staff shift notifications are turned on globally.
- On the staff member's profile, look for any messaging preference or Notification toggle that may have been switched off.
- If either setting is disabled, re-enable it before resending.
4. Resend the Shift Notification
Once you've confirmed the assignment, contact details, and messaging settings are all correct, manually resend the notification from within the booking. Look for a Send Notification, Notify Staff, or similar button near the staff assignment area.
5. Check for Delivery Issues
If the notification was sent but still not received:
- Ask the staff member to check their spam or junk folder (for email).
- Confirm their mobile carrier isn't blocking SMS from third-party services.
- Review any notification logs or activity history within CaterCloud for a delivery status.
Tip: To avoid this issue in future, make sure all staff profiles are fully completed before you begin assigning shifts — consider this a required step in your onboarding checklist.
